Many public toilets in Powys are in a poor condition because of under-investment, the local authority has admitted.

Powys council is looking to offload all but two of its toilets in the county as part of plans to save 拢27m by 2019.

It blames growing pressure on budgets for the lack of maintenance but says others can run them more cheaply.

So far, 27 have been handed over to town or community councils and other community groups with 11 more lined up.

Talks are taking place over the future of four other sets of public toilets while six have already closed.

A council spokesman said: "We openly recognise that the budget constraints have led to an under-investment in these facilities and, as a result, many are in a poor condition.

"We have tried to address this in part by offering an advancement of grant funds from future years to support work being carried out in the early years of transfer."
