Flooding and travel disruption is expected in Wales following heavy rain.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, in place from 21:00 BST on Thursday until 20:00 on Friday.

The forecaster said heavy rain and strong winds could cause travel disruption, and flooding of a few homes and businesses was likely.

It added that south-west England could also be affected by the adverse weather conditions.

The forecaster said 30 to 50mm (1.2 to 2in) of rain could fall in two hours in the wettest spots.

Some high ground in west Wales could see 70mm (2.7in), it added.

The Met Office warned it would also become windy with gusts of 45 to 50mph (72 to 80km/h) inland and as high as 60mph (96km/h) on some southern coasts.

Bus and train journeys may be longer on Friday, it said, while spray and flooding on roads would probably prolong journeys too.

Natural Resources Wales' duty tactical manager Aimee Thomas, said: "Surface water flooding is expected, which could cause localised flooding of roads, and flooding from drains, ditches and small streams.

"The rain could also lead to the issuing of flood alerts and warnings if rivers reach trigger levels."
