A bakery's "hard work" to recover following a fire starts on Tuesday, the company's managing director said.

Fire crews are continuing to dampen down after the large fire badly damaged the Village Bakery on Coed Aben Road, Wrexham Industrial Estate, just after 08:40 BST on Monday.

The fire started in the production area of the building and was brought under control by early afternoon.

Robin Jones said the bakery has been "overwhelmed" by the support received.

"It has been humbling for us to realise the high regard in which we are held by so many people," he said.

"There is no time for us to feel sorry for ourselves and hard work to restore lost capacity starts today."

He said the company's three other bakeries were working as normal and the company was working hard to mitigate any disruption for customers.

The family business was founded in Coedpoeth, Wrexham, by a father and son in 1964.

All staff were safe and they thanked emergency crews for their quick response.

Richard Fairhead, assistant chief fire officer for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said it was a "very large fire - thankfully we don't usually have fires of this size in north Wales".

Two appliances, the aerial ladder platform and the environmental protection unit were still damping down the fire on Tuesday afternoon.
