A three-year-old boy has died after being hit by a vehicle on a farm in Carmarthenshire as his father tended to sheep.

Dyfed-Powys Police are investigating the incident near Llanybydder at about 16:25 BST on Sunday.

Police said Evan Lloyd Williams died at the scene and his family are being supported by officers.

The family live six miles away from the farm in Gorsgoch, near Lampeter, Ceredigion.

They rent the farmland where the incident took place.

Nia Lloyd Thomas, head teacher at Evan's school, said: "Evan was a popular and invaluable member of the Ysgol Bro Siôn Cwilt family.

"His loss will be felt massively across the entire school community, who were witness to his personality and beautiful nature.

"Let us all send our sincere condolences to Evan's parents, his older brother and sister, together with the entire family during this awful, sad and difficult period."

Councillor Euros Davies said local people's "hearts are bleeding" for the family after the "devastating" loss.

"Everyone I have spoken to are hurt and their hearts are bleeding for the family," said Mr Davies, who represents the Llanwenog ward on Ceredigion council.

"The hurt and the loss there is beyond anyone's dreams."

Carmarthenshire councillor Ieuan Davies said: "The community is in terrible shock but nobody seems to know exactly what has happened.

"It is awful for the family."

Police are investigating the death and both the coroner and Health and Safety Executive have been informed.

Dyfed-Powys Police said: "It's with great sadness we confirm the child who died suddenly near Llanybydder is three-year-old Evan Lloyd Williams.

"The family do not wish to comment but have asked to be left to grieve in peace."
