Investigation after train hit fallen tree at Broughty Ferry

An investigation has been launched after a train hit a fallen tree at 84mph (135 kmh) at Broughty Ferry in December.
The driver of the train suffered minor injuries in the incident on the Perth to Aberdeen line, which happened during Storm Gerrit.
The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) will probe the sequence of events leading to the crash.
It will publish its findings at a later date.
The driver of the train made an emergency brake application and took shelter behind the driving seat immediately before the impact.
The driving cab of the train was heavily damaged, disabling the train and requiring its passengers to be evacuated.
The RAIB said it would also consider the management of train operations during adverse weather conditions and the arrangements in place to manage and control the risks from trees falling on to the railway line.
