Landowners and developers are examining the possibility of building 20 wind turbines in the south of Scotland.

Buccleuch Estates and 2020 Renewables have begun feasibility studies on the site at Hopsrig, between Langholm and Bentpath.

The developers have outlined the plans to members of Langholm, Ewes and Westerkirk community council.

Should they decide to make an application to build the turbines, it will be submitted after summer 2016.

Ian Simms, senior development manager at 2020 Renewables, said: "The site is already identified as a preferred area for wind energy development by Dumfries and Galloway Council but a substantial amount of environmental and technical work needs to be undertaken before any application is submitted.

"We are committed to engaging with the community throughout this process and we will be holding open events when we have more information to share."

Earlier this year it emerged that the same group are considering building 140 turbines in the Lowther Hills.
