Developers are to appeal over a proposed wind farm on Brunta Hill near Westruther in Berwickshire after it was blocked by Scottish Borders Council.

The authority decided the scheme would have a "significant and unacceptable" impact on the area.

However, PNE Wind UK is to contest their decision and appeal to the Scottish government.

If successful, the company would build eight wind turbines in the area having scaled back its plans from 10.

A PNE Wind UK spokesperson said: "Over the last three years, considerable effort has gone into consulting extensively and making improvements to the wind farm's design.

"As a result, we are confident that the wind farm layout is the most sympathetic to the landscape and remain committed to progressing with its development."

Councillors rejected the proposals in August this year.

They were concerned about the landscape character of the surrounding area and an adverse effect on a section of the Southern Upland Way.

Council officers also suggested the development would have "an overbearing and dominant impact" on the amenity of nearby houses.
