Scottish council tax 2017/18 - When and what's happening?

Scotland's 32 local authorities have decided their council tax rates. The nine year long national council tax freeze ended this year, and councillors were given the power to raise the basic bill by up to 3%. Find out what's happening in your area.

When is your council tax due to be set?

7 February - Western Isles (3% increase; Band D bill 拢1,055) Midlothian (3% increase; Band D bill 拢1,246)

9 February - Edinburgh (3% increase; Band D bill 拢1,204), Borders (3% increase; Band D bill 拢1,116) East Renfrewshire (3% increase, Band D bill 拢1,160), Aberdeenshire (2.5% increase; Band D 拢1,169)

15 February - Moray (3% increase; Band D bill 拢1,169), Shetland (3% increase; Band D bill 拢1,084)

16 February - Glasgow (3% increase; Band D bill 拢1,249); Highland (3% increase; Band D bill 拢1,198) Renfrewshire (No increase, Band D bills remain at 拢1,164); Inverclyde (No increase, Band D bills remain at 拢1,198); Angus (3% increase; Band D bill 拢1,104); Fife (3% increase, Band D bill 拢1,151); South Lanarkshire (No increase; Band D bills remain at 拢1,101)

  • All councils have the power to raise the basic council tax bill by up to 3%. This affects every band from A to H. But in all areas, bills in Bands E to H will rise by at least 拢2 to 拢10 a week because of national changes to the system. That rise will be on top of any 3% local rises.

  • Band D is highlighted as the average council tax bill for householders in Scotland.
