Snow has continued to cause problems in areas such as Aberdeen

A fresh warning of heavy snow for the north east of Scotland has been issued, with Aberdeen favourite for a white Christmas.

The Met Office said Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire could see up to 5cm of snow, and predicted icy roads.

Grampian Police said a handful of roads were closed by snow, and that many routes required extra caution.

Bookmaker William Hill has named Aberdeen as the city in the UK most likely to have snow on Christmas Day.

The odds for Aberdeen are an all-time low of 2/5.

Chances of snow in Glasgow and Edinburgh on Christmas Day are also seen as very likely, at 1/2.

Aberdeenshire Council said road crews were again out in force, with the lowest recorded temperature overnight -11C at Tillyfourie, near Inverurie.

On the railways, urged train passengers to check services before travelling.
