Londonderry crash: Man arrested after two cousins from Donemana die, is released
An 18-year-old man arrested after two cousins died in a car crash on the outskirts of Londonderry has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
The two cousins were Aaron McDonald, 19, and Michael McDonald, 21, from the Donemana area near Strabane.
The 18-year-old male driver of the car and a 16-year-old girl, a passenger, have been discharged from hospital.
The crash happened on the Victoria Road between Newbuildings and Magheramason.
Police are appealing for anyone who was travelling on the Victoria Road between 03:00 BST and 03.30 BST to come forward.
They are keen to hear from anyone who saw a black Volkswagen Golf travelling from Strabane in the direction of Derry.
Chief Inspector Alan Hutton said: "We are still investigating what exactly happened. One car was involved.
"So far, this year, 28 people have been killed in traffic collisions in Northern Ireland.
"It's horrific."
'Tragic'
Northern Ireland's Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness has tweeted saying it is "very sad to hear of the loss of two young lives and injuries to others. My thoughts and prayers with their families".
DUP MLA Gary Middleton said: "This is another tragic example of two young men losing their lives on our roads."
