Loyalists took part in a protest in Londonderry

Up to 40 loyalists have taken part in a protest in Londonderry.

They said it was "in solidarity" with loyalists in Belfast who object to the removal of the union flag from City Hall.

Protestors blocked the main road to Dungiven, close to the loyalist Irish Street estate for about 20 minutes.

They insisted their protest was peaceful and was staged to reflect the anger of Protestants and the erosion of their British identity in Belfast.

Police arrived and diverted traffic. The main road has now reopened and protestors have dispersed.
