Newtownards: Building collapse closes town centre street

Rubble from the building fell on to Mark Street in Newtownards
A building has partially collapsed in the centre of Newtownards, County Down.
Mark Street was closed in both directions on Wednesday, the police said.
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) attended the scene on Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency services say no one was injured as a result of the incident but motorists and pedestrians have been urged to avoid the area.
A spokeswoman for the NIFRS said three appliances were at the scene as well as a specialist rescue team, as a precaution.
Fire crews left the scene in the evening, but a police cordon remains in place.

The owner of the building, which was previously a car repair garage, confirmed to authorities that the workshop was locked and no one was inside.
³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ News NI understands that officers from Ards and North Down Borough Council and Northern Ireland Electricity were at the scene to assess the situation.
The road will remain closed overnight, the NIFRS said.
