Craigavon: Murder inquiry after Nathan Gibson's death

A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the discovery of the body of Nathan Gibson in Craigavon

The man found dead on a towpath in County Armagh was 25-year-old Nathan Gibson.

A 40-year-old man is being questioned by police on suspicion of murder.

Detectives said Mr Gibson was found fatally wounded on the towpath near Lake Road, Craigavon, on Thursday 16 January.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. On Friday, the area where Mr Gibson was found was cordoned off for a forensic examination.

Det Ch Insp John Caldwell appealed for information about where Mr Gibson had been on Thursday evening between 17:30 GMT and 23:30 GMT.

He asked if anyone had seen anyone acting suspiciously close to the towpath from Legahory Court to Lake Road.

Police are investigating another incident at a house in Legahory Court.

They have appealed for witnesses.

The PSNI said that as investigations are carried out, there may be disruption to motorists and residents.

DUP MP for Upper Bann Carla Lockhart said her thoughts and prayers were with Mr Gibson's family.

"It is a very horrific incident and I can only imagine the hurt and devastation within their household," she said.

She said it was important to give police "time and space to investigate" and she understood that police patrols in the area would be increased.

Sinn Féin MLA for Upper Bann John O'Dowd said that the news of the discovery of a body was "tragic" and that "circumstances remain unclear".
