North East limestone landscapes get 拢1.9m boost

  • Published

Grasslands in the North East are to benefit from a grant of 拢1.9m which will also create five new jobs.

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has given the money to the Limestone Landscapes Partnership to fund a three-year-project.

Most of the money will be spent on the Durham Magnesian Limestone grasslands which stretch from Hartlepool and South Shields coasts to Newton Aycliffe.

It will be used to improve the habitats of butterflies and glow worms.

Durham County Council's limestone landscapes development officer, Ken Bradshaw, said: "This programme of work will bring about a series of improvements to the landscape that will help communities."

The project will create four new full-time jobs and a part-time role.
