A woman has suffered life-threatening injuries after being knocked over by a car as it left a McDonald's drive-through.
The 64-year-old was struck near the fast food outlet's branch off Shields Road, in the Byker area of Newcastle, shortly before 20:50 BST on Friday.
Police said the driver of a Vauxhall Astra was arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving.
He has been released from custody while investigations continue.
The woman is being treated in hospital where she is in a critical condition, officers added.
