Boy, five, injured in dog attack in Ashington
A five-year-old is in hospital after being attacked by what is believed to be a Staffordshire bull terrier.
The boy was hurt in the Maple Street area of Ashington, Northumberland, shortly before 16:30 BST on Sunday.
He is at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary and his injuries are described as serious but not life-threatening.
Northumbria Police said the animal was seized with the agreement of the owner "in order to protect the public".
"While further assessment will be carried out, officers believe the dog to be a Staffordshire bull terrier breed," it added.
"Police remain in the area to offer reassurance and inquiries into the incident are ongoing."
