Radstock's Victoria Hall closes after 'dangerous defects' found
A community building in Radstock has closed after a survey of its electrical system identified "a clear danger of fire or risk of death".
Victoria Hall, which is owned by Bath and North East Somerset Council, is used for dance classes and snooker practise.
A council spokesman said "potentially dangerous defects which require urgent action" were found.
He said the building would be closed until it could be made safe.
The council will be contacting current users of the 115-year-old former dance hall to help them relocate to alternative premises while repairs are carried out.
Radstock Town Council vacated the building in February because it was unable to afford the running costs.
Bath and North East Somerset Council then launched a public consultation to decide its future.
The result of the consultation will be reported to the council's cabinet meeting in July.
