A teenage boy has been taken to hospital after a "targeted" acid attack, police have said.

An investigation has begun after he was exposed to the corrosive liquid in Stockport, Greater Manchester, at about 22:00 GMT on Sunday night.

The teenager's condition was "stable and not life-threatening", Greater Manchester Police confirmed.

Det Insp Michael Jimenez said no arrests had been made but there was "no threat to the wider public".

Officers were "keeping an open-mind into the timeline of events leading up to the incident" on Vaudrey Road in Woodley, which they believe was targeted, he added.

The force confirmed the substance used to injure the boy had been tested and was confirmed to be acid.

The teenager, whose age has not been detailed, was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital. Det Insp Jimenez urged anyone with any information about the incident to contact police.
