An 18-year-old man has been jailed for nearly three years after attacking a police dog in Hull.

Keane Pyzer assaulted the dog on 4 April after police gained entry to a property he was in on Amberley Close.

He made multiple threats to officers and threats to harm the dog before attacking it and trying to hit the dog handler with a shovel.

Pyzer, of High Street in Hull, was sentenced to 35 months behind bars at Hull Crown Court on 8 May.

The force attended the property after Pyzer hit a taxi with a shovel when asked for payment by the driver.

At an earlier hearing, Pyzer pleaded guilty to criminal damage, threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place, and actual bodily harm.

He also pleaded guilty to the use of threatening behaviour to cause distress, making off without making payment, and causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.
