The first quadriplegic sailor to sail solo across the Atlantic and a TV newsreader have both collected MBEs from the Queen.

Southampton's Geoff Holt ended his 2,700-mile (4,345km) journey in January.

He joined ITV news presenter Fred Dinenage at a ceremony at Windsor Castle.

Mr Holt has been recognised for services to disabled sailing, and Mr Dinenage for services to broadcasting.

Mr Holt said: "I'm particularly proud that the citation does state 'for the services to disabled sailing' because that's where I really feel I've put the most effort in.

"Over the last two decades I've sort of given up a large percentage of my life to helping disabled sailing, not just for myself obviously, but for others.

"To be recognised for that is very great indeed."

Mr Holt, who took his son Timothy and wife Elaine to the ceremony, said: "A year ago I was starting off on my Atlantic voyage, it's certainly a lot warmer and drier here at Windsor Castle.

"I like to think this award is for all the disabled people who are disabled sailors. I've spent the last 20 years helping others go sailing and promoting it to the disabled - that's what it's all about."

Fellow MBE Mr Dinenage has been on British screens for more than 40 years, presenting many programmes including children's show How and the game show Gambit.

He now presents ITV's regional news programme in the south.
