Prog Rock played on Gloucester Cathedral's organ

An organ recital with a difference was performed at Gloucester Cathedral on Thursday.

Italian pianist Marco lo Muscio played a series of progressive rock anthems on the famous instrument, including Emerson Lake and Palmer's arrangement of Fanfare for the Common Man, and Steve Hackett's Hands of the Priestess.

"Gloucester Cathedral is an outstanding cathedral, it's fantastic," he said.

"The organ is exactly in the middle of the cathedral so I think the sound will have a stereophonic effect."

The keyboard of the organ was projected into the nave via a large screen so that the audience could see the organist at work.

There was also be a performance of Ralph Vaughan Williams' Phantasy Quintet, as well as compositions written by Mr lo Muscio.

The performance was one in a series of lunchtime organ recitals held at Gloucester Cathedral this year.
