Planning application for Atlantic Array wind farm
A planning application for a major offshore wind farm has been submitted in Devon.
The Atlantic Array project involves installing up to 240 wind turbines nine miles (16km) off the coast of north Devon.
Developer Channel Energy Ltd previously scaled-back the number of turbines following a consultation period.
The Planning Inspectorate will look at the application and decide whether or not to accept it for consideration.
North Devon Council and Torridge District Council have a role to play in the process if it is accepted for consideration.
The Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs will have the final say over whether the scheme goes ahead.
Councillor Mike Edmunds, executive member for strategic planning at North Devon Council, said: "It's a big deal for the local area so it's important that we consider everything and make the appropriate recommendation to the planning inspectorate."
