Pilot killed in Blencathra crash identified as Malc Grout

A paraglider pilot who died after crashing on Blencathra in the Lake District has been identified.

Malc Grout died after sustaining severe injuries in the collision, according to the Great North Air Ambulance Service.

Police were alerted by walkers near Foule Crag on Sunday shortly after 14:00 GMT.

A Coastguard helicopter transported members of the Keswick Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) close to the spot of the crash.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service and RAF Mountain Rescue Team were also involved in the almost four-hour-long operation.

Mr Grout was a well-known figure in the area's paragliding community, Keswick MRT said.
