Work begins to reduce road flooding on A595 in Cumbria
Almost 拢1m is to be spent on reducing the risk of flooding on one of Cumbria's busiest roads.
The cash will go on improving drainage on two sections of the A590 between Dalton-in-Furness and Ellscales.
The work, which began on Sunday, is expected to last six weeks and will involve some lane closures.
A spokesman for the Highways Agency, which will oversee the 拢940,000 scheme, said the work would result in "safer and more reliable journeys".
It involves replacing existing roadside kerb-drains with ones that can cope with higher volumes of water.
