M6 resurfaced closures after lorry fire near Coventry

Part of the the M6 southbound was being shut for resurfacing overnight after a lorry fire, Highways England said.

The fire broke out early on Tuesday and has closed the southbound carriageway between junction two for the M69 and junction one at Rugby.

Specialist teams were sent to the scene to recover the lorry trailer that had been carrying a "hazardous substance".

Highways England said its officers were doing remedial work "as fast as possible" to prepare for peak times.

It added in a statement there would be a full closure for resurfacing on Tuesday night.

Motorists were being advised to take the "hollow triangle" for the diversion route; exiting at junction two on to the M69 northbound to junction one, then on to the A5 eastbound to the A246 junction, travelling southbound to rejoin the M6 at junction one.
