Isles of Scilly hit by 'phenomenal' waves and gusts of 81mph
Gusts of 81mph hit the Isles of Scilly as the Met Office confirmed "phenomenal" sea conditions.
Waves of 13.5m were also recorded off the island as Storm Imogen took hold.
A Met Office spokesperson said the sea conditions were associated with storm force 11 - the most violent on the scale.
The Met Office's Nicola Maxey said: "We're going to see winds continue to pick up, with the strongest affecting north Cornwall and north Devon.
"With a phenomenal sea state you would expect to see waves of 11.5m, but we could see a peak of 16m.
"So far a buoy has recorded waves of 13.5m off the Isles of Scilly."
Wave heights on the shore are expected to reach 6m.
