The driver of a stolen car which hit a police officer who later died of his injuries has appeared in court.

Luke Haywood, 32, of no fixed abode, hit PC Gareth Browning in a stolen Mazda in Reading on 30 November 2013.

Haywood was jailed for nine years in 2014 for causing grievous bodily harm with intent and dangerous driving.

Haywood, who had applied for early release from jail, appeared via video link at Reading Magistrates. PC Browning died in April.

PC Browning was attempting to stop the stolen vehicle when he was injured.

He was medically retired and died from his injuries aged 36.

His lawyer indicated Haywood would admit manslaughter at a Reading Crown Court hearing on 15 January.
