A new primary school due to open in 2024 has been delayed for a year because of legal and planning issues, and rising costs.

Kingsbourne Academy, on the Kingsbourne development in Nantwich, was granted planning permission in June.

But issues including transferring the site to the council and increasing costs have affected the building project, said Cheshire East Council.

The 210-pupil school is now due to open in September 2025.

Construction work had been expected to start in July, and completed in time for the September 2024 reception class intake.

One of the factors adding to the cost is the need for a new substation to power the school.

The council had approved a budget of 拢7.78m for the primary, but this has now risen to just over 拢8.6m, taking all the increases into account, a report to the local authority states.
