Your pictures: Insects

Every week we publish a gallery of readers' pictures on a set theme. This week the theme was insects and we start with an image taken by J Knight Johnson: "One of many soldier beetles on a sunflower in a Wisconsin garden."

Ceri Griffiths: "Taken at a food market in a back street of Beijing. The smaller insects are wriggling on the sticks before being fried and eaten."

Erica Cooper: "These baby spiders hatched in the morning, and were making their way down to the ground, each suspended by a fine silk thread in Bangor, Maine, USA."

Tarl Vetter: "It has always amazed me how perfectly amber preserves insects. The transparent material and amazing details of these insects seemed like a good test for a homemade lightbox."

Bob Faraway: "When I moved this Puss Moth Caterpillar to a safer place I noticed a small opening on the back of it's head, which was opening and closing. I later found that to protect itself it can eject a jet of acid."
