An American judge lets an inmate meet his newborn baby for the first time

  • Published

A judge in America has allowed a convicted burglar to see his newborn baby for the first time in her courtroom.

Amber Wolf allowed an exception to a couple's no contact order so that James Roeder could meet his one-month-old son.

The couple are accused of breaking into a warehouse and stealing six flat screen TVs.

James Roeder was in custody when his son was born.

The baby was brought up to the front of the courtroom after the judge saw his partner try to hold the baby up when he came out for his case to be called with his lawyer.

Amber Wolf told CBS' WDRB TV in Louisville, Kentucky: "It occurred to me after we finished this case that he had not met his baby - who was 30 days old - and that he was not going to get an opportunity to meet his baby anytime in the near future."

It's not the first time Amber Wolf has hit the headlines in America.

Less than two weeks ago a woman turned up in her court with no trousers on.

Amber Wolf said it was "outrageous" after hearing that the inmate had allegedly been refused trousers and feminine hygiene products during her couple of days in custody.

The original 75-day sentence was rejected and instead she was given a $100 (拢76) fine and credit for the time served in jail.

Courts in America sometimes broadcast their cases on TV and they can get big viewing figures, leading to some judges becoming celebrities.
