We knew it was coming, but somehow we still weren't quite prepared for Grimmy's rap debut.

On Sunday 24 May 2015, Nick Grimshaw jumped on stage with Olly Murs at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Norwich.

"Fair play to him," Olly chuckled afterwards. "He came out and did really, really well.

"If anything I think an alter ego came out in him," said Olly.

Travie McCoy did the original rap with Olly on Wrapped Up, which reached number three in the Official Singles Chart in 2014.

"A lot of people were tweeting saying it was Tragic McCoy instead of Travie," Olly told us when asked if Grimmy had adopted a new name for his rap star identity.

"Backstage he was so nervous," Olly admitted. "And then all of a sudden on stage he's jumping around, he's giving it everything.

"He was going crazy and obviously his outfit was something that he nicked out of my wardrobe clearly."

Unbelievably the polished performance witnessed on stage at Earlham Park only took half an hour to rehearse in Olly's dressing room just before the show.

In his yellow shorts and black and white patterned shirt, Grimmy (or Tragic McCoy) had thought carefully about what he wore for his rap performance.

"Grimmy's always had good style," reflected Olly Murs. "But I think today he let himself down a little bit.

"Think Ali G, it just screamed Ali G to me."

Ali G was a character created by Sacha Baron Cohen, who had his own TV show and even a 2002 film, Ali G Indahouse.

The crowd gave Nick Grimshaw an enormous cheer while he was rapping though and after less than a minute he skipped off with a massive grin on his face.

"I was expecting him to stay out with me and dance with me for the rest of the show," said Olly. "But he's gone, he's got on a plane back to London I think."

Live coverage of Radio 1's Big Weekend in Norwich will be on Radio 1 and 1Xtra across the weekend.
