Chris Brown must return to court in June after a judge in Los Angeles said information was being collected on claims that the singer cut corners doing his community service.

Brown is on probation for an assault in 2009 on his then girlfriend Rihanna.

The R&B singer was also sentenced to 180 days of community service and domestic violence counselling.

Prosecutors claimed in February that he had not been doing his community service properly.

After meeting privately with Chris Brown, his lawyer and prosecutors on Friday, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge James Brandlin told the 23-year-old singer to return on 10 June.

At a court hearing in September a judge called his community hours "cryptic".

Officials from Chris Brown's home state of Virginia claimed the singer had carried out six months of community service.

But questions were raised about the validity of the work hours on the spreadsheet.

It recommended he remain on probation under the same conditions since pleading guilty to the attack on Rihanna just before the Grammy awards.

In 2009, the singer accepted a plea deal of community service, five years' formal probation and domestic violence counselling.
