Susan Boyle has failed to pick up any Brit nominations

  • Published

Susan Boyle may have had the fastest and biggest selling album of 2009 but she won't be walking off with a Brit Award this year.

The Britain's Got Talent runner-up was nowhere to be seen in the nominations for the awards despite it looking like a strong year for female contenders.

Lady Gaga, Lily Allen, Pixie Lott and Florence and the Machine are all up for three.

Hundreds of people who work within the music industry get to decide who is put forward for the Brits.

They can only vote for artists who have had an album or single in the Top 40 by 30 November 2009.

The Britain's Got Talent runner-up did release her top selling album in that time frame but the Brit Academy clearly didn't think she deserved to make it through.

'Enough recognition'

N-Dubz have been vocal in the past about reality show contestants clogging up the chart and making it harder for self-made artists to reach the top.

With a best British single nomination this year, lead singer Tulisa Contostavlos was pleased there was one less Simon Cowell prot茅g茅 in the way.

She said: "British music should be recognised for the people that grinded for 10 years to get where they are. I think they [reality show contestants] get enough recognition as it is."

Nominated alongside N-Dubz in the singles category is Taio Cruz.

He thinks Susan Boyle has just as much right to be on the Brits shortlist as anyone else.

"I think the awards shows... should just kind of highlight who's worked hard that year and who's made an impact," he said.
