    More now from campus officials, who have confirmed that the suspect in the shooting is deceased.

    They said the unnamed suspect was "engaged" by officers early on Wednesday morning.

    Officials said they did not know a motive for the shooting at this point in the investigation.

    But they were keen to emphasise that there was no broader threat to campuses across Nevada.

    "The entire Nevada System of Higher Education in Southern Nevada, campuses are all closed out of an abundance of caution," Adam Garcia, campus police director, said.

    "There is no threat to any other campus but we are doing this out of an abundance of caution."

    Authorities have spoken to reporters at UNLV, where they have confirmed there have been victims in the shooting.

    But Adam Garcia, Director of University Police Services, said he could not share any information on the identities of the victims.

    "There are a number of victims that have been transported to area hospitals," Sheriff Kevin McMahan said. "So I don't want to give you false information and tell you how many victims that we have."

    The White House says it is monitoring reports of the shooting at the UNLV campus in Nevada.

    Speaking to reporters earlier today, White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre she had just been informed of the incident.

    "Obviously, we're going to continue to monitor what's currently occurring. I don't want to get ahead of what local enforcements are probably dealing with at this time," Jean-Pierre said.

    Nevada Governor Joe Lombado announced on X that the Las Vegas sheriff's office and its police department will hold a press conference "shortly".

    He posted that his office was in "constant communication" with public safety officials.
