    Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said it had dealt with nearly 400 calls since the start of Storm Eunice.

    Incidents attended included collapsed buildings, overturned vehicles, large trees brought down by the high winds, as well as small fires and other incidents happening across the county.

    Area Manager Neil Fenwick said: 鈥淚t鈥檚 been an incredibly busy day but our teams have responded well."

    He told the Look East it had been "the busiest day we've had in almost 30 years".

    A woman has been taken to hospital with injuries to her legs and pelvis after she and a baby were hit by a falling tree, the East of England Ambulance Service has said.

    A spokesman said: "We were called to the junction on The Embankment and Bushmead Avenue in Bedford just after 14:00 following reports that a tree had fallen on a woman and a baby.

    "An ambulance, three vehicles from Hazardous Area Response Team, an operations manager and a response car from the Magpas Air Ambulance attended the scene.

    "The woman was transported to Bedford Hospital South Wing for treatment for injuries to her lower leg and pelvis, while the baby was uninjured.鈥

    Hertfordshire Police are reporting that a tree has fallen on the M25 at Watford.

    The force said several lanes were blocked on the clockwise carriageway between junctions 19 and 20.

    A person has been seriously injured after they were struck by a falling tree, Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

    It happened shortly before 15:15 on Bushmead Avenue near the Embankment in Bedford.

  17. Northamptonshire: Fire and rescue service 'well-resourced'published at 16:00 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2022

    said it was dealing with a number of storm-related incidents across the county, mainly damaged buildings, fallen trees and other exterior structural issues.

    It said the increase in incidents was "no more than anticipated" and it was "well-resourced to attend and deal with results of the high wind".

    It urged people to only drive if absolutely essential.

    It a statement it said: "All agencies across the county are working well to support each other.

    "We would like to thank colleagues from the Northamptonshire Emergency Planning Team, who are co-ordinating calls from people who require assistance, but do not need the emergency services.

    "This is allowing us to attend hazardous incidents, that require immediate attention and could lead to issues affecting public safety."

    Hertfordshire County Council said its highways team had received more than 175 reports of fallen trees, and the fire service had received more than 100 calls to unsafe structures and fallen trees.

    The A10 viaduct between Hertford and Ware has also been closed due to the high winds.

    An up-to-date list of the county council services affected by Storm Eunice can be found on a on its website.

    Alex Woodman, chief fire officer, said: "I鈥檇 like to thank all our colleagues across the emergency services and all the crews, from both our highways and fire services, who have been out in the storm responding to incidents and helping to keep people safe.

    "We鈥檙e prioritising the most hazardous incidents, so it will take a while for us to deal with everything, and it may take several days to complete the clear-up.

    "We鈥檙e expecting the high winds to continue into the night, so please continue to stay at home if you can and be extremely careful if you do have to go out."
