A drink-driver crashed into a taxi and a metal barrier in North Yorkshire, prompting a police appeal.

Officers were called out to Woodlands Drive in Scarborough on Monday after a Ford C-Max crashed twice in quick succession.

North Yorkshire Police said the vehicle struck the taxi, then crashed into the fence after the driver had exchanged details with the cab owner.

The driver, who was more than three times over the legal alcohol driving limit after a breath test, was taken to hospital after the crashes.

The damaged vehicle was seized after officers found the driver did not hold a valid driving licence, the force said.

Police appealed for people who were in the area at the time and may have dashcam footage of either of the collisions to contact them.
