A thunderstorm warning covering parts of the south east of England has been issued.

The Met Office has put out the yellow warning until 23:59 BST on Tuesday.

Forecasters warned of heavy rain, flooding and lightning strikes, as well as disruption and delays to rail and road services.

鈥淭here is also a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost,鈥 a Met Office spokesman said.

The warning covers as far south as Brighton, East Sussex, and as far north as Fakenham, Norfolk.

The Met Office also warned that some buildings could be damaged due to hail, floodwater and strong winds.

The warning states areas could see up to 20-30mm of rain falling in one hour with some places receiving 40-50mm in two to three hours.

Amy Bokota, a Met Office forecaster, said: 鈥淭he downpours could be slow moving, and that鈥檚 the main trouble. The wind is quite light at the moment so when they do form, they could be quite slow moving and intense.

鈥淲here you see them, they could be quite intense and dramatic, but not everywhere is going to see them and some places just down the road could be completely fine and shower and thunderstorm-free.鈥
