Hereford FC have signed a deal to remain at Edgar Street stadium until 2070.

The club said the agreement with Herefordshire Council would secure its long term future.

The council is also working with Hereford FC to look at the redevelopment of the Blackfriars End.

It is due to begin this summer with the demolition of the old stand.

Hereford FC Chairman Chris Ammonds said the new lease was a "huge moment" for the club and that he was "very excited to see what the future holds once the Blackfriars End has been demolished".

He thanked the council for its willingness to work with them and said the talks had been "really positive".

The previous lease agreement had five years left to run and Mr Ammonds said the security of the long-term deal would help the club attract outside funding.

He added: "Obviously it鈥檚 a beautiful old ground, as everybody knows, but it comes with its issues and its challenges because of its age."

Harry Bramer, the councillor responsible for community services and assets, said: 鈥淗ereford FC and the Edgar Street ground are an integral part of life in our city and an asset to the whole county."

He also said he was "looking forward to working in partnership with the football club on future developments at Edgar Street".
