Works to improve and preserve watercourses and features in three Sheffield green spaces are set for approval this week.

The city council is planning to carry out work at Crookes Valley Park, Endcliffe Park and Hinde Wheel Dam in the Rivelin Valley.

The budget for the repairs, totalling 拢148,200, will be proposed at a meeting of the council鈥檚 finance committee on 19 June.

The bulk of that cash, 拢101,500 would be spent dealing with problems around the lake basin at Crookes Valley Park.

'Reduced access'

A report said standing water and expanding tension cracks had been spotted around the south and west of the lake basin in December. The park lake is an old reservoir, said the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The research said the issue had worsened by April and was "reducing access to a well-used and much-loved community asset in the city centre".

The committee will decide whether to spend 拢21,000 on Porter Brook in Endcliffe Park.听

A聽section of the river wall near the weir may have been damaged by聽a tree stump behind it.

A further 拢25,700 is proposed for works at聽Hinde Wheel Dam, next to the Rivelin Valley Trail used by walkers, where sinkholes have appeared in the outer wall of the dam.

A report said the damage threatened footpaths in the area.
