A 15-year-old boy has died after being struck by a car.

Ethan Allen was walking on Rochdale Road in Oldham at about 20:10 BST on Tuesday when he was hit by a black Seat Ibiza.

He was critically injured and taken to hospital where he died two days later.

The car driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and driving under the influence of drugs, police said.

The 38-year-old has since been released on bail.

'Truly missed'

Paying tribute to Ethan, his family said he was a "very energetic, funny, loving young boy who always made time for others".

They said he had "a great love of the sport basketball and played for Oldham State Warriors and more recently Royton Mavericks".

The Oasis Academy Oldham pupil was "truly missed" but his legacy would "continue to shine through in life with the donation of his organs to save another life," they added.

"We are truly proud of him as much in life as in death."
