Engineers have worked through the night to repair a burst water main that flooded homes on a street in Walsall.

West Midlands Fire Service said a number of properties were caught up in the incident on Broadway North, The Crescent and Sutton Road.

South Staffordshire Water worked to repair the burst during the early hours, with firefighters and police on the scene attempting to manage water flow to limit damage.

South Staffs Water said repairs could take up to 10 days.

Two fire crews remained on the scene on Monday morning, with local road closures also remaining in place.

Local resident Jason Winnall said it appeared several properties had been affected by flood water.

Firefighters attempted to divert the water

Firefighters isolated the electricity supply to multiple properties and opened a hydrant to divert water.

A water boom and portable pumping equipment were also in use, with fence panels in some gardens removed in a bid to lower water levels.

Flooded homes and gardens

South Staffs Water said it was working to repair a burst main on Broadway North, with properties in WS1 and WS4 potentially experiencing a loss of water supply or low pressure.

The company added road closures and a small diversion were in place and the work would likely take between seven to 10 days to complete.

Mike Morris, head of security and resilience, said a small number of properties had been flooded but damage was largely limited to gardens and garages in the area.

"We are working hard to help those worst affected first and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused," he said.
