An annual sea swimming event has taken place to raise funds for charity.

Guernsey Swimming Club's Open Castle Charity Swim, which started at 10:45 BST on Sunday, saw participants swimming about 500m (1,640ft) within Havelet Bay.

Organisers said that, although numbers had yet to be confirmed, about 700 swimmers were estimated to have taken part, setting off from the slipway at Castle Cornet in batches of 50, before finishing at the Horseshoe Pool at La Vallette Bathing Pools.

The event aimed to raise funds for St Peter Port RNLI lifeboat, Channel Islands Air Search and Guernsey Alzheimer's Association, organisers said.

The oldest simmer to complete the distance is due to be confirmed and be awarded the Bill Green Memorial Trophy.

The amount raised has also yet to be confirmed.
