A "dangerous" man who raped and "strangled a woman so hard she could not scream for help" has been jailed.

Cameron Livesey, of Preston, bombarded the woman with thousands of calls and texts, threatening to kill her and sending her images of weapons.

The 23-year-old was found guilty of rape, sexual assault and strangulation, and was jailed for 14 years.

He had earlier admitted stalking at Preston Crown Court, Lancashire Police said.

'Nightmares and flashbacks'

Livesey had waited outside her workplace and texted her saying he was "going to hurt you when you're alone" and that he should have "smashed her face" and set her on fire.

In an impact statement to the court, the victim said: "This whole case has caused me to be diagnosed with PTSD, depression and anxiety.

"I still have nightmares and flashbacks about what happened to me."

Det Con Leanne Newitt said: "Livesey is a dangerous individual who presents a serious risk of harm to women.

"His actions have had a profound and ongoing impact on his victim.

"I welcome the significant sentence handed down to him, which reflects the seriousness of his appalling offending."
