Hundreds of servicemen and women are expected at a football game where a helicopter will land on the pitch to deliver the match ball.

Shrewsbury Town FC is hosting its tenth Armed Forces Day on Saturday, with military personnel set to watch the league one side play Carlisle United.

For the event in 2023, astronaut Tim Peake landed a helicopter in the centre circle and delivered the matchball, the football club said.

This year, a Juno helicopter from Number 1 Flying Training School at nearby RAF Shawbury will make the delivery to Croud Meadow.

The military matchdays are organised by Shrewsbury Town, the club's foundation and Shropshire Council's Armed Forces Covenant team, and continue to grow in popularity, according to councillor Kirstie Hurst-Knight.

The events were "an excellent opportunity for people to learn more about the Armed Forces, what they do and how they serve," she added.
