Seventy arrests have been made and action taken against more than 300 drivers during a six-week road safety campaign in Staffordshire.

The campaign, called Look Again, was launched in March following the deaths of 45 people in collisions in the county in 2023.

Of the 70 arrests, 18 were for drug-driving, 15 for drink-driving and three were on suspicion of dangerous driving, said Staffordshire Police.

More than 300 traffic offence reports were issued, for offences including not wearing a seatbelt, using a mobile phone whilst driving and driving at excess speeds.

Supt Mat Derrick said: "The consequences of dangerous and poor driving habits can be life-changing for everyone involved.

"Each of last year鈥檚 45 tragic fatalities in the county is somebody鈥檚 loved one."

Driver error was the cause of almost half of the serious or fatal road accidents in Staffordshire last year, stated the officer.

During the Look Again campaign, 125 vehicles were also seized, and 37 stolen vehicles recovered, said the force.
