Fire crews have been tackling a large blaze at a recycling site near Chatham Docks.

The fire, on St Mary's Island in Chatham, Kent, started at about 18:50 BST on Tuesday.

At the height of the blaze, eight fire engines were at the scene working to extinguish the flames.

At 08:50 BST, Kent Fire & Rescue Service said it had reduced that number to two.

A statement from the service on Wednesday afternoon advised people nearby to keep their doors and windows closed for the rest of the day due to "a large amount of smoke".

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
