Flood warnings in place after heavy rainfall
- Published
Several flood warnings are currently in place across Greater Manchester following heavy rainfall throughout Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning.
Eight warnings have been issued by the Environment Agency (EA) covering the River Irk from Cheetham Hill in Manchester to Chadderton Fold in Oldham.
Low lying land, roads, and properties near to the river were expected to be most at risk.
The EA has urged people to avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and to avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.
The warnings mean residents should "act now", with the EA warning that people should "protect yourself and your loved ones".
More rain was expected though the day but conditions were expected to turn drier and brighter overnight into Thursday.
