Primary school with only nine pupils to close

A primary school which has only nine pupils will close this summer after costing the local authority 拢17,200 per child - the highest in Wales.
Anglesey council's executive has voted unanimously to close Ysgol Gymuned Carreglefn, near Amlwch.
According to the authority the school costs over three times the average spend per child on Anglesey, which is 拢5,240.
Next year the number of pupils is expected to fall to five, so in September they will be transferred 2.2 miles (3.5 km) away to Ysgol Gymuned Llanfechell School.
At the moment all the pupils are taught in one class.
Members were told efforts would be made to retain the building for community use.
Deputy leader, Gary Pritchard, thanked the community for the "respectful" manner they had approached the process, "which was not a pleasant one".
As Ysgol Carreglefn has fewer than 10 registered pupils, the Welsh government's school organisation code allows local authorities to undertake a streamlined procedure to bring about closure.
