A man has been arrested after a 120mph (193km/h) police pursuit ended in a crash close to the M62.

The incident happened just after 03:30 BST when a silver VW Golf failed to stop for police after a patrol car spotted the vehicle on the A162 at South Milford, in North Yorkshire.

The car made off at speed before it later crashed on the M62 roundabout at Ferrybridge, in West Yorkshire.

A man, 25, from the Leeds area, was later arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop and burglary and remains in custody.

Officers had earlier been called to a report of a group of men dressed in dark clothing behaving suspiciously in Sherburn-in-Elmet.

A spokesperson said officers had been deployed to search for the men when the silver VW Golf was spotted and failed to stop.

After it crashed at Ferrybridge, a police dog tracked the driver towards nearby warehouses and officers were able to arrest the man who was making off across fields.
