Cyclist, 16, dies after crash and driver arrested

A teenage cyclist has died following a crash involving a car at a crossroads near Portsmouth.

It happened where Portsdown Hill Road meets Portchester Lane and Skew Road in Portchester on Tuesday, shortly before 21:45 BST.

The cyclist - named as 16-year-old Ethan Wilkie from Portsmouth - died in hospital, police said.

Following the crash, an 18-year-old man from Gosport was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drug driving.

He was released on bail until 12 September while enquiries continue.

A 17-year-old boy from Lee-on-the-Solent was also arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving but was released without charge.

Hampshire Constabulary said the boy's family were being supported by specialist officers.

The force is appealing for witnesses or information about the crash, which involved a silver Honda Jazz.
